Privacy Policy

Effective October 14, 2026

This policy explains how Edge Offload, Inc. ("Edge Offload", "we", "us") handles information when you use our website at edgeoffload.com, the Edge Offload mobile app (the "App"), Edge Offload devices (each a "Box"), and the related online services (together, the "Services").

Our products are in pre-release testing. This policy describes how the Services handle information today. We will update it before general release and whenever a change in the Services changes what it says.

The short version

  • The Box processes camera frames and audio in memory. It does not write them to disk, and it does not send them to us.
  • Transcripts, detections and scene summaries exist only for the length of a session and are deleted when the session ends.
  • We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use what your camera sees or your microphone hears to train AI models.
  • This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
  • To ask a question or make a request, email drew@edgeoffload.com.

1. Information we collect

Camera, microphone and what they capture

When you use the App with your glasses or phone, the App sends camera frames, microphone audio and your questions to a Box on your local network. The Box processes them in memory to produce results such as object detections, transcripts, translations and answers, and sends those results back to the App. Camera frames and audio are never written to the Box's disk and are not sent to us.

While a session is active, the Box keeps the results it needs to answer follow-up questions: recent detections, transcripts, and a short summary of the scene. It deletes them when the session ends.

Device and account information

When you first open the App, it registers your phone with our service and receives a device certificate and an access credential. We keep a record of that registration: a device identifier, the certificate, the App version, and when it was issued. If you own a Box, we also keep the Box's identifier, software version, the time it last checked in, and the settings you choose for it.

Joining an Edge Offload network at a venue

At a venue that hosts a Box, your phone can join the Box's Wi-Fi network automatically using its device certificate. Our service checks that certificate and records the authentication event (the device identifier, the Box, and the time). We keep these records for up to 7 days to investigate abuse, then keep only aggregate counts. We do not build a history of the venues you visit.

Usage counts

The Box keeps anonymous counters, such as the number of sessions served and minutes of processing by type. These counts do not identify you.

Diagnostics you choose to share

Diagnostic logging is off by default. If a Box owner turns on log sharing, or agrees to remote support access for a specific problem, we receive technical logs about the Box's operation. Remote access is enabled one incident at a time and each use is recorded. If you test a pre-release version of the App through Apple's TestFlight, Apple shares the crash reports and feedback you choose to send with us, under Apple's terms.

Cloud processing you turn on

Cloud processing is off by default. If you turn it on in the App, requests the Box cannot serve (which can include an image and your question) go to the cloud AI provider named in the App's settings, and that provider's terms and privacy policy apply to them. Cloud processing is never used for guests at a venue.

Pilot and testing participants

We record camera or microphone data for testing only from people who have agreed to take part in writing, and only for the purpose they agreed to.

This website

This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising tags or forms. It is hosted by GitHub, which receives standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type when it serves a page. GitHub's handling of that information is described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach.

2. How we use information

We do not use camera frames, audio, transcripts or your questions to train AI models, except data from testing participants who agreed to that in writing.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only in these cases:

4. How long we keep it

5. Glasses makers and other services

The App connects to your glasses through software provided by the glasses maker, and you may use the maker's own app alongside ours. The glasses maker's terms and privacy policy govern what its hardware and software collect. Links from our Services to other websites are governed by those websites' policies.

6. Security

Connections between the App and a Box, and between a Box and our service, are encrypted with TLS. Each phone and each Box authenticates with its own certificate. We limit access to the information we hold to the people who need it to run the Services. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as the law requires.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what we collect, to receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict some processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. We honor these rights as the law requires and will not treat you differently for using them. Where the GDPR applies, we process information to provide the Services you request (contract), to keep them secure and working (legitimate interests), and with your consent for optional features such as cloud processing and diagnostics.

8. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

9. Where information is processed

The Box processes your requests where it sits. Our online service and our service providers operate in the United States. If you use the Services from outside the United States, the limited information our service holds is transferred to and processed in the United States.

10. Changes to this policy

We will post any change on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold, we will tell you in the App or by email before it takes effect.
